OSLO (2001)
The Solo Oslo was the first collaboration between Anne Juren and Roland Rauschmeier. Conceived as a kind of choreographic anagram, the piece rearranged movement, space, and meaning into new constellations.
Inspired by the idea of “negative space,” a concept used by British sculptor Rachel Whiteread, the performance explored what is usually invisible or left in between. It opened up the stage beyond the traditional boundaries of theatre and brought together different experiences of time and space.
During the performance, Juren at times left the theatre and went to a nearby corner bistro. This action was filmed and later projected back into the piece, folding exterior time into the theatrical present. What emerged was a temporal feedback loop in which documentation and live action continuously displaced one another — a kind of “negative time,” where absence, delay, and repetition became structuring elements of the choreography.
The work premiered at Théâtre 145 in Grenoble.
