The Point (2015)
Anne Juren’s The Point unfolds as a choreography that takes place entirely within the imagination of its audience. Lying down with closed eyes, spectators follow a spoken score that guides attention through the interior of the body. Language becomes touch, movement, and sensation. Instead of producing visible dance, the work activates an inner choreography that is precise, intimate, and at times unsettling.
Created for ImPulsTanz in 2015 at Belvedere 21, The Point emerges from Juren’s ongoing investigation into the relations between body, language, and perception. The work proposes a poetic and fragmented understanding of the body, one that dissolves clear boundaries between inside and outside, self and other. Drawing on somatic practices and speculative anatomy, Juren uses voice as a choreographic tool that triggers physical responses and reconfigures how the body is experienced.
By shifting choreography into the realm of sensation and imagination, The Point redefines the role of the audience. Spectators become active participants in a shared yet deeply personal experience that oscillates between concentration and disorientation. The piece expands choreography beyond the visible and invites a reconsideration of how bodies can be addressed, imagined, and collectively perceived.
